Not everyone can relate to the glamorous models in ads and magazines. But somehow, using floral constructions by the owners of Bows & Arrows, Geof Kern managed both to elevate his talent and transform them into broadly accessible beings—after all, who can resist a flower face? Indeed, his “Flower Face” series for luxury shopping destination NorthPark Center Dallas’ SS 2018 Art of Shopping campaign featured elegant fashion accessories in unexpected ways from NorthPark stores, like Bvlgari and Neiman Marcus. Handbags and shoes became whimsical hats or crept out symmetrically from big bundles of real flowers. There was even a rose petal suit, made in advance by Debra Allen Kern. The rest of the shoot was constructed and produced in a day, so Kern, whom design agency Banowetz & Co. requested to draw inspiration from a previous project involving flowers and chairs, sketched specific shots and planned meticulously beforehand. The resulting images were placed in regional art and culture magazines, as well as in a photo essay in NorthPark Center’s new biannual magazine, NorthPark The Magazine. They also will be on display in “Floral Fantasy,” from April 13-23, 2018, at the annual NorthPark Spring at the Park.
